Phone Features
The Motorola Krave ZN4 features two layers of touch--on the interactive clear flip outside and the full touch-screen inside--providing you with one-touch access to your favorite features and services without even opening up the see-through flip cover. With the flip open, you can access the full range of menu options. Live TV can be enjoyed with the flip open or closed in stunning landscape mode on the large, vibrant color display.

The durable flip helps protect the touchscreen underneath, and a prominent side key locks access to the external buttons, preventing accidental use when the phone is in your purse or pocket. You can also make voice dial calls without opening the cover, thanks to the phone's voice-activated dialing feature and dedicated voice recognition key--just speak the name or number you want to call. The phone also features a virtual landscape QWERTY keypad, haptic technology for reassuring sensory feedback when you press a key, conveniently-sized buttons, and direct access to personal email accounts with Verizon's Mobile Email.

The 2.8-inch touchscreen has a 65K color depth and a 240 x 400-pixel resolution, and it modifies its display to 240 x 320 pixels when the flip is closed. The phone has an internal 130 MB memory, which can be expanded via optional MicroSD/MicroSDHC memory cards up to 8 GB in size. The phonebook can store up to 1000 contact entries with fields for up to five numbers and two email addresses per entry. It supports caller groups as well as photo/ringer ID.

Handsfree communication is easy thanks to the integrated speakerphone. This phone also provides Bluetooth wireless connectivity (version 2.0), and includes profiles for communication headset, handsfree car kits, and file transfer. With the A2DP Bluetooth profile, you can stream your music to a pair of compatible Bluetooth stereo headphones. You can connect your laptop (either via Bluetooth or wired USB) and enjoy dial-up networking--surf the Internet, send email, and access files from a server.

The dedicated camera key on Motorola Krave provides quick access to a touch-controlled 2.0 megapixel camera. The accelerometer detects the movement when the phone rotates and changes the display, making it easy to catch landscape and portrait shots, as well as capture and view video. The digital audio player is compatible with MP3, WMA and unprotected AAC/AAC+ formats, and it enables you to create and manage playlists right on the phone.

The Krave a year and a half later

Review Date: April 5, 2010
Reviewer: J. Donnelly,
I purchased the Krave about a year and a half ago, locking myself into a two year contract with Verizon. My experience with it has been a mixed bag and recently I've begun to experience some serious problems with it.

Pros:

- Lets face it, when you whip this baby out, people look. It is a cool looking phone that stays trendy well after the purchase.

- Once you get used to the touch screen, you can navigate pretty quickly.

- Good sound quality, at least in my experience.

Cons:

- KEYBOARD: The keyboard is royal pain in the ass. I've never been much of a texting guy, so I didn't worry to much about this feature when I bought it. As texting has become more popular, however, there has been no avoiding it. The keyboard on this unit is tiny. Unless you have fingers the size of a chipmunks, the odds are you're going to be spending a lot of time backspacing because you hit the wrong letter(s). Figure on three or four lines of text taking you five minutes or more to complete. Recently, the keyboard has begun freezing with no warning, with keys not responding no matter how hard you press.

- GPS: same problem. You press individual fields (address, city, state, etc.) to bring up the keyboard so you can input the appropriate data. The fields have never responded properly. You either have to press down ridiculously hard, press repeatedly, or press on different areas of the field before the unit finally decides to take you to the keyboard. Sometimes I've had to back out, then go back in to get the fields to respond.

- VISUAL VOICE MAIL: I purchased a "$5.00 a month" service called visual voice mail. It lets you view your mailbox visually, see who's calling, respond, etc. Recently, the count on the main screen for how many messages I have comes up wrong. It fluctuates from a low number, to a high number, then back to a low number. Recently, messages I deleted a month ago have dropped back into the mailbox. Sometimes messages disappear, only to reappear later. Weird crap.

- ADDRESS BOOK: this goes to the screen sensitivity problem cited elsewhere. When you touch the screen to scroll, nine times out of ten you end up in the contact you touched. The touch screen is ridiculously sensitive. Short of blowing on it, there is no way to properly scroll through, without entering at least one contact (or more) you never intended to.

- POWERING DOWN PROBLEMS: This has just begun recently. My phone now powers off, at least a dozen times a week, on its own. Sometimes the ring that announces you have a new voice mail will go off when it shuts down. This is starting to become seriously annoying.

- BATTERY COVER: Yeah, me too. The cover now slides off on its own. Don't know what is supposed to be holding it in place but it's not doing too a good a job these days.

My problem now is that the phone is out of warranty. It's been suggested at the Verizon store that I can get an early upgrade, for an additional $20 plus, of course, a new two year contract. To make matters worse, it now looks like the iPhone will available to Verizon customers anywhere between 2 to 6 months as of this writing. I don't think I'm going to be able to hold off replacing the phone (the problems get worse with each passing day), but I've been waiting for the #&^#$ iPhone to come to Verizon for years!! Now when it looks like it might finally get here, I still might not be able to get my hands on it until another two year contract is up!

The Phone That Should Have Stayed In Product Testing

Review Date: February 1, 2010
Reviewer: J. Schwenk,
I bought this phone over the summer and at first look I loved it with the touch capabilities, but once you actually try to use it, then the problems occur.
Dislikes
1.) I'm an avid texter. THIS IS NOT THE PHONE FOR ME. When you hold it sideways to text...O what do you know the flip screen is in your way. Any button around the edges are pretty much not going to work. The touch screen capability of this phone is piss poor. Its extremely slow to begin with.
2.)This phone just doesn't like to work in the cold! I live in PA and its cold here most of the year and for some reason the touch screen starts pressing random buttons on the screen that aren't even near the one u wanted.
3.) Data storing for texting really pisses me off. You can't have more than 80 and every time u get a message after 80 it quick pops up a message that says to delete some. I put a 1 gig card in the phone and it doesn't seem to save to that and add extra space like it did my razor.
4.)Not good for music. I listen in the car on my radio and it just can't find the songs u want while driving.
Likes
1.)Camera is ok I did like the scrolling features (they did something right here)
2.)The TV is cool. I never payed just used free flow.

Considering how big the phone is you would think it could do a lot more....but it can't

DON'T BUY THIS PHONE. ESPECIALLY IF YOU LIVE IN COLD WEATHER!!!!

*I went back to my 6yr old razor :)
Unbelievable

I agree with some of the reviews. This phone is nothing but junk. I was excited at first because it was a touch screen, tv, music and etc. But having this phone less than a month the phone has been exchange out four times with verizon. The screen was always freezing up. Texting was horrible. Always touching the wrong letters. It didn't recognize when texting. The phone would shut off by itself and then I would have to restart the phone up. Then it got to the point I was not able to hear anything on the phone. The phone wouldn't ring, stop connecting to my bluetooth, people would call and I couldn't hear them but they could hear me. I would not recommend this phone to anyone. Skip this phone. Motorola still needs to work on this.

Aweful Phone

Reviewer: D. Johnson,
Texting is horrible. You can never push the right buttons. People seem to have trouble hearing me. Not to mention, I put my phone to my ear after having it about a year and it snapped right in two. (No it wasn't dropped or anything) It was bazaar. I woundn't get this phone again if someone paid me. Dont waste your money.
Not worth it!

Review Date: November 9, 2009
Reviewer: C. Villamizar,
I had a horrible experience with this phone. First of all, the touch screen's quality is really bad when compared to a blackberry or an ipod. Also, the plastic ear piece section is very delicate and no matter what you do it will end up with bad scratches and eventually falling off. I would not recommend this phone to anyone!

The carrier in question is Sprint and it is a new samsung phone… I went from New Jersey to Virginia. Do cell phones not sometimes work when u go to another state as in not recieving calls and texts or is it just that my phone is acting stupid?

I have the LG Fusic from Sprint right now but we are about to be done with Sprint. We are basically going to choose our next cell phone carrier based on the phone we can get. Having the phone as a modem is the most important feature to us. But trying to figure out what all phones have that feature is like pulling teeth! Every carrier calls it something different, and I’m not sure if certain things mean what I think they mean so on and so forth.

Product Description

Perfect for power texters, the sleekly redesigned LG enV3 for Verizon Wireless looks like a nicely compact candybar-style phone with standard alpha-numeric keypad and 1.5-inch display on its face. However, it has a hinged side that opens up to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard and additional 2.6-inch screen--perfect for all your on-the-go text messaging and email needs. Other improvements over the previous enV2 model include a 3-megapixel camera/camcorder, MicroSD memory expansion to 16 GB (from the previous 8 GB maximum), and a longer battery life with up to 5.45 hours of talk time.

It's compatible with Verizon's V Cast Music Service, which enables you to purchase songs through your phone and download them via Verizon's fast EV-DO data network. You'll also stay on course thanks to the VZ Navigator GPS turn-by-turn direction service. Other features include a multi-format digital audio player, Bluetooth for both handsfree devices and stereo music streaming, HTML web browsing capabilities, access to personal email and instant messaging, Visual Voicemail, and a bilingual interface.

Nicely compact, the LG enV3 offers widely spaced external keys designed for easy dialing.
Verizon Wireless Service
With support for the EV-DO high-speed data standard, you'll enjoy fast access to the Internet and Verizon Wireless multimedia services (additional charges applicable), with average download speeds ranging from 400 to 700 Kbps and peak rates up to 2 Mbps. (Learn more about where EV-DO coverage is offered.) The V Cast Music service enables you to download songs instantly to your phone, or purchase music through your PC and transfer the files to your phone. If purchased from your phone, you'll receive two copies of the song: a Windows Media Audio Pro Plus format at 64Kbps stereo is sent to your phone, and a Windows Media Audio 9 format at 160Kbps stereo is sent to your account in the V CAST Music online store for downloading to your PC. V Cast Music offers nearly 2 million songs, with more being added all the time.

In addition to the V Cast Music service, this phone is also compatible with the Verizon Wireless V CAST Music with Rhapsody, which enables you to access this exclusive digital music service for RealNetworks and for MTV Networks. V CAST Music with Rhapsody delivers unlimited monthly access to music on up to three Rhapsody-compatible mobile phones and players and online on multiple PCs and Web browsers. In addition, customers who purchase music over-the-air are able to download the master copy of the songs or albums to their PCs free of digital rights management (DRM) software that restricts how and where music can be played.

The V Cast Video service enables you to stream or download video clips to your phone from a variety of news, entertainment, sports, and weather channels, including CNN, ABC News, E!, CBS Sports, The Weather Channel, and VH1.

With this GPS-enabled phone, you'll be able to access the Verizon Wireless VZ Navigator service (additional charges applicable) for voice-prompted turn-by-turn directions, heads-up alerts, local search of nearly 14 million points of interest in the US (such as landmarks, restaurants and ATMs), and detailed color maps. And the Chaperone service lets you easily locate your loved ones from your Verizon Wireless phone or PC in real time. After defining a zone, such as an area designating a school or summer camp, you'll be sent an alert via text message when the Chaperone handset enters or leaves the zone.

Getting on the Internet is easy using the Verizon Wireless Mobile Web 2.0 package, which allows you to read and send e-mails, exchange instant messages and view your favorite web content on your phone. The Verizon Wireless Media Center wireless download service is also fully compatible with this phone. This pay-per-download service features application downloads, games and productivity tools. You can also personalize your handset with ringtone downloads using the Media Center service.

Flipping open the env3 reveals an easy-to-use QWERTY keyboard that makes texting and emailing a snap.
With Visual Voice Mail, you can delete, reply and forward voice mail messages without having to listen to prior messages or voice instructions. Visual Voice Mail is the ideal tool for the busy mobile professional who may need to prioritize which messages he or she listens to first. Features include on-screen access to voice mail message status, save up to 40 messages for 40 days (or archive permanently), create up to 10 different caller ID-based greetings, and reply via call back, text or even voice mail.

With Mobile Broadband Connect (subscription required), you can use your smartphone as a modem for your notebook when you connect the two using a USB cable--or open a Bluetooth connection--enabling you to access the Internet or your company intranet. The tethered modem capability is ideal when you're traveling and need to use your notebook to check email, access corporate networks, or download large files like presentations and reports. And with Mobile Broadband Connect, you won't have to buy an extra PC Card or other devices.

Phone Features
Easily pocketable, the LG enV3 has a candybar-style face with a 1.5-inch LCD screen complemented by large, widely spaced keys for easy dialing, a dedicated contacts button, 5-way navigation, and send/end buttons. Flipping open the enV3 reveals the full QWERTY keyboard and a large 2.6-inch LCD (10 percent larger than the previous model) with a 320 x 240-pixel resolution and 262K colors. Dialing function buttons are also duplicated on the internal touchpad.

The phone has a small internal memory and offers memory expansion up to 16 GB using optional MicroSD memory cards. The enV3's built-in address book can store up to 1000 contacts, and each entry can store 5 numbers, 2 email addresses, and a picture ID. The phone comes with multiple unique polyphonic ringtones, and it has vibrate and silent modes when you need to keep things quiet. The phone lets you match pictures with callers to identify them, and the enV3's voice recognition software supports voice commands from any user, not just a pre-programmed user's voice.

Handsfree communication is easy thanks to the integrated speakerphone. This phone provides the latest version of Bluetooth connectivity--version 2.1 + EDR (Enhanced Data Rate), which makes pairing with a headset as well as other Bluetooth devices a snap. And with the embedded A2DP Bluetooth profile, you can stream your music to a pair of Bluetooth stereo headphones or other compatible devices. You can connect your laptop (either via Bluetooth or wired USB) and enjoy dial-up networking--surf the Internet, send email, and access files from a server (additional charges or subscription applicable).

The 3-megapixel camera can snap still photos in five resolutions (2048 x 1536 (default), 1600 x 1200, 1280 x 960, 640 x 480, 320 x 240 pixels), and it also features brightness and white balance settings, multiple shutter sounds and color effects, and a self-timer. It also includes a multi-shot mode with a Smile Shot feature that automatically takes a picture when a smile is detected and a Panorama feature that automatically takes 3 pictures in sequence as you move from left to right. The phone can also capture video clips for as long as you have available memory.

The enV3 has all the bases covered when it comes to messaging, too, with support for sending and receiving text, picture, and video messages as well as mobile instant messaging (IM). There's also a complete e-mail client on the device for POP- and IMAP-based accounts. And of course, the QWERTY keyboard makes it a snap to type your messages.

What did the world do before cell phones?

I walk down the street. At least every other person is on a cell phone. Those that aren’t, have one clipped on their waist. I walk through the mall, airport, restaurants, etc. People are all on the cell phones. You pull up next to another car at a stop light and turn to see the driver…….on his or her cell phone.

Did we really miss this many phone calls prior to cell phones being invented? Or are we as a society totally overcommunicating now that we have them?
