Does anyone have links to informative pages with history and how many wrecks cell phones cause in a year that they could give to me?

NHTSA = National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
They have sponsored some research into this. You can also sometimes get some information from auto insureance carriers, at least the larger ones like Allstate, Progressive, State Farm. Some states have recognized the severity of the issue, and are taking steps to limit cell phone use, at least by requiring earpiece use at the minimum, and in certain areas, outright banning cellphone use while moving. The best bet is to pull over and then talk. Far too many police and medical personnel look on in horror at folks that blithly jabber away while driving. And yes, that Mythbusters program holds a good amount of truth to it. Distractions like talking, eating, and smoking hinder your reaction times. So please think twice about only having one hand on the wheel, and not keeping focused on the road ahead of you. Driving is a priviledge, not a right.

No but i could tell you about the mythbusters episode where they took a liscence test while
a.just fine
b.talking on cell phone
c.drunk
and they found that talking on the cell phone was worse than driving drunk. Plus multitasking doubles your risk of an accident in the first place. So don’t do it.

Unfortunately that isn’t one of the standard things collected on accident reports, cell phone use.
As more states come up with laws regulating use, they will start collecting that data. Of course anything that takes your attention away from the road is dangerous, that includes cell phones and changing radio stations. What scares me is the sheer number of people posting here asking how to defeat the emergency brake interlock on their DVD players.
