How do pre-paid cell phones with internet access usually charge for internet access?

How do pre-paid cell phones with internet access usually charge for internet access? Do they charge for how long your using internet access, taking off minutes the whole time your using the internet or do they charge so much a day for internet access, taking off only a few minutes to access the internet for the day?
