Should prepaid cell phones in USA be sold without performing an identity check?
Liquor and cigarettes are not sold to anyone without a driver’s license or state ID card? Isn’t it ridiculous that anyone can buy a prepaid cell phone and use it to commit crimes. I just saw on AMW that a murder victim had called prepaid cell phone thrice on the day he was killed. Police couldn’t find out the owner of the cell phone because it had a prepaid card. This is a threat to the national security as well if terrorists are able to buy such disposable phones.

Well, I think the government already has enough information on us so if someone wants to use a prepaid phone for anonymity, let them. It really isn’t any different than using a payphone, is it?

That’s ridiculous. Just because something can be used improperly does not mean responsible people shouldn’t be allowed to use its advantages. I personally love prepaid cell phones because it allows me to not be tracked…and I’m a responsible citizen.
Liquor and cigarettes require ID cards only because they are restricted by age. The store does not keep track of who buys it.
I guess keeping track would help, but they could always use a payphone.
it is not always like that. if everything we do is monitored, we no longer have privacy in there. you will not be different to a dog on a leash.
