What is the cheapest way to talk on cell phones between US and Canada and Vise-Versa ?
We live in Pennsylvania and our daughter lives in Ontario, Canada. We would like to talk with our daughter on a weekly basis but we don’t want to have to pay alot of money with a monthly contract(s) (unless necessary ).
Any suggestions, ideas, comments.

We are trying to find away ( if possible ) around having to pay roaming charges? Any cell phones users that do calls between US / Canada and vise-versa and have 1st hand experience in this area would be appreciated. Thanks very much. What about programming only our telephone # into the phone so she can only call us – vise-versa ?

I work at Radioshack and we usually sell Virgin Mobile for international calls. Most people don’t want to sign a 2 year agreement with a company just so they can call out of the country. It’s 15 cents a minute plus whatever the cost of your plan.
Contract phones would have cheaper rates… but I don’t know if you would want to sign a 2 year agreement or not.
check with your cell provider they may have an extra you can purchase for like 5$ a month that would let you make unlimited international calls
i know that cingular has this thing where you can make cheap calls to canada for .19 a min for 3.99$ a month. i would think that other carriers would have something similar. you would need to call customer service, or go to a retail store for your carrier. If you travel to Canada often, cingular has a plan for $5.99 that you can roam in canda and make calls back to the us for like .79/min. your daughter would have to check with her cell phone provider (if its different) to find the best rates.
