Will american cell phones work in France?

I am planning to take a trip to france just wondering will american cell phones work in France or will I have to get a cell phone over there?

You phone has to GSM capability and the cell phone company turn on the feature.
Depends if you have T-Mobile or AT&T or anything that uses sim card which are called GSM phones will work there. But if you have something like Verizon or Sprint they wont work because they are CDMA which work only in America.
