Verizon Service Options
With support for the EV-DO high-speed data standard, you'll enjoy fast access to the Internet and Verizon's multimedia services (additional charges applicable), with average download speeds ranging from 400 to 700 Kbps and peak rates up to 2 Mbps. (Learn more about where EV-DO coverage is offered.) The V Cast Music service enables you to download songs instantly to your phone, or purchase music through your PC and transfer the files to your phone. If purchased from your phone, you'll receive two copies of the song: a Windows Media Audio Pro Plus format at 64Kbps stereo is sent to your phone, and a Windows Media Audio 9 format at 160Kbps stereo is sent to your account in the V CAST Music online store for downloading to your PC. V Cast Music offers nearly 2 million songs, with more being added all the time.

In addition to the V Cast Music service, this phone is also compatible with Verizon's V CAST Music with Rhapsody, which enables you to access this exclusive digital music service for RealNetworks and for MTV Networks. V CAST Music with Rhapsody delivers unlimited monthly access to music on up to three Rhapsody-compatible mobile phones and players and online on multiple PCs and Web browsers. In addition, customers who purchase music over-the-air are able to download the master copy of the songs or albums to their PCs free of digital rights management (DRM) software that restricts how and where music can be played.

The V Cast Video service enables you to stream or download video clips to your phone from a variety of news, entertainment, sports, and weather channels, including CNN, ABC News, E!, CBS Sports, The Weather Channel, and VH1.

Verizon's Mobile eMail gives you access to your Windows Live Hotmail, Yahoo Mail and AOL accounts so you can read, write, and reply. Access your address book, receive e-mail alerts and more, right on your Verizon Wireless phone.

With this GPS-enabled phone, you'll be able to access Verizon's VZ Navigator service (additional charges applicable) for voice-prompted turn-by-turn directions, heads-up alerts, local search of nearly 14 million points of interest in the US (such as landmarks, restaurants and ATMs), and detailed color maps.

Reviewer: Haley Streetman,
This phone is no iphone but it is great for those of us who can't afford an iphone but still want something cool. The touchscreen is nice and responsive. Overall good choice.

long-lasting quality phone

Review Date: May 18, 2010
Reviewer: R. Kennedy,
I have had the LG Dare for almost 2 years now and I have virtually no complaints. I have never needed to replace it and I intend to keep it for awhile longer, seeing as technologically it's still up there with newer phones.

Call quality is good, but who uses phones for just calls anymore? Battery life is pretty good, compared to past phones I've had. This phone is also the perfect size. The screen is large enough to text efficiently with little scrolling and to perform simple internet functions, but the phone is not so large that it is bulky. It is small enough that it comfortably slides in and out of my pocket.

The touch screen is fantastic and the functions are very intuitive. The "favorites" function is especially useful. I keep 9 of my most called friends under the favorites button so that I can reach them very quickly without hassle. You can even add a picture for each person and press their face to call them. Another useful feature is being able to drag icons right to your "desktop." For example, I commonly use a calculator and calendar, so I set them up so that they are accessible right from the home screen.

The quality of the camera is great, especially for a phone. The pictures it takes are just as good as my boyfriend's digital camera.

When texting, you have the option of using the traditional number pad or the QWERTY key pad. I have no problems with the QWERTY. There was a small initial learning curve (although I'd never had an on-phone QWERTY before) but I quickly was able to type out full text messages with few errors. There is also an option to use the touch screen to draw letters with your finger instead of normal typing, and although it's a cool feature I don't know why anyone would use it.

I also use my phone to check e-mail, Facebook, etc. The screen is a bit small for extensive internet browsing, but works perfectly fine for sites that are already set up for mobile devices (like Facebook). The internet can also be a bit slow at times, but nothing unreasonable.

The complaints I do have are that on occasion it has "unlocked" and dialed someone from my pocket. This is the downside to the unlock button being located on the touch screen. On occasion it also works a bit slowly, taking a moment to respond to something I press. Neither of these issues have been a huge problem. One problem with the camera is that the shutter time is very slow and I've gotten a lot of blurry images. But like I said, the picture quality is very good when you hold the phone still until it takes the picture.

Overall, I think this is a great phone and a perfectly reasonable alternative to more expensive smart phones.

Great! Wonderful battery life!

I've had the LG Dare for nearly a 1 1/2 years now, and it still seems like it's brand new and right up there with the new phones! It has an amazing camera - better than my old digital camera. The videos are very nice too, but you can't send videos in the highest resolution.
At first, the QWERTY keyboard took some getting used to..but with practice, I have now mastered texting and constantly text all my friends. The visual keyboard and a regular keyboard are hardly different! Everything is very easy-to-navigate and user-friendly. I have yet to try out the mp3 player program..

PROS:

Great keyboard!
Very responsive touchscreen
Outstanding camera
Amazing battery life
Sleek design
Very durable
Nice recording system

CONS:

Sometimes I'm sent back to the home part when I'm taking a pic
Horrible Sound Quality

I have had this phone for nearly two years. No problems with the touch screens etc. I think they work better than most, .. but ... the sound quality is horrible! Isn't that what a phone is for?

I can't hear my callers. I often have to have friends, who I know well, repeat sentences up to 3 times so I can understand what they are saying. Listening to voicemail from someone I don't know - just about impossible to do in a car or out on the street. I generally don't check voicemail until I'm back at the office. Overall, I avoid making calls on this phone because it's such a painful experience.

I brought the phone into a Verizon store to see if it was defective. They pretty much said - can you hear anything coming out the earpiece? then it's fine.

After hearing that others have had sound problems on the LG touch - I guess I'm pretty much going to rule out any other new LG options.
Would not recommend this phone at all

Reviewer: Becky,
I have had my LG dare for 8 months, and i have had it replaced 3 times already, for many problems. the screen would go black and the phone would still be on. The battery got water damaged just being on the sink while in the shower. and right now the phone wont charge. so i have to get it replaced for the 4th time in 8 months! which is a new dare every 2 months! im very unhappy with this phone and all the problems that came with it. and i have a 2 year contract so im stuck with it. i have also had alot of "pocket dialing" since the lock button is a touch button, anything in your pocekt or purse can unlock it. The touch screen full key board is horrible, you end up hitting all the letters except the one your going for (and i have tiny fingers and nails). Over all its not a very wonderful phone, and isnt all its cracked up to be.
